Incoming Students FAQ Covid-19

FAQS – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

2. INCOMING STUDENTS

2.1. If I decide to return to my country and continue my studies at my home university, what are the procedures that I should carry out at the UCA

In general, you have to communicate your decision to the UCA’s Internationalization Office, through the mail corresponding to the program to which your mobility belongs to. The certificate of stay will be issued only for the actual period of mobility carried out, and the grade pass will not be obtained, as the student has left the UCA. If your mobility is ERASMUS KA107, you should bear in mind that if the force majeure clause is not applicable, you will be asked to reimburse the entire scholarship.

2.2. What does “force majeure” mean? I am afraid of losing the scholarship

The force majeure clause means that mobility is interrupted for reasons beyond the student’s control, which forces to cancel the stay. In this case, the COVID-19 pandemic is considered force majeure. In cases where the destination institution cancels teaching, or circumstances occur that make it impossible to accomplish the mobility under normal conditions. It is especially considered a cause of force majeure in areas classified by SEPIE as risk zones. This cause applies if the stay has not exceeded the minimum amount that can be financed, or if it could not be started, but expenses have been incurred. In any case, from the Internationalization Office, we will take care to make the appropriate claims to the SEPIE. We will advise you then, to justify the expenses incurred “a posteriori”.

2.3 How would force majeure apply to incoming students at the UCA from any program?

The UCA will arrange the processing of the force majeure clause exclusively for students of the KA107 program. The university offer all the necessary means to continue mobility, so mobility should not be interrupted, except in justified cases, such as people at risk, or the return ordered by the university or the government of your country. In any case, we would need a document justifying these causes of force majeure.

The rest of the programs will be responsibility of your home university.

2.4. We have been informed that in order to be recognized the force majeure, we have to collect all the information that helps to demonstrate the situation (emails, closure of residences, etc.). Where do we ask for this information at the UCA or at our home university?

We refer to the answer to question 2.3

2.5. What should I do if my home university sends me a message asking me to stop my mobility? Would I need something more from the UCA university?

We refer to the answer to question 2.3

2.6. With the State of alarm decreed in Spain, can I go for a walk in the city or go for a run?

According to the instructions of the Government of Spain, all outdoors activities, outside the house, are prohibited, except those expressly indicated as essential (going to buy food, medicine, going to the doctor …). You cannot walk, run, go to the beach or to the country side. Mind that is possible that those who violate this prohibition can be fined.

2.7 I am thinking of returning to my home country, but I would like to know if I can continue the classes online. What consequences could it have if I do it?

Online teaching will only continue as long as we are in state of alarm. We do not know yet what conditions will exist for the end-of-semester exams and the possibility of taking them in a NON FACE-TO-FACE way. In any case, we recommend that you keep yourself informed through the channels that the UCA has provided, before taking any decision, for possible changes in the situation, if the alarm status is extended or canceled.

2.8 How long will the alarm status last and when will we resume face-to-face classes?

Only the government of Spain can change the alarm status. In case of changes we will communicate it by all possible means provided the UCA. Currently the first term has been established until March 30. The government can evaluate then the situation and extend it if necessary. The resumption of face-to-face classes will depend on the instructions of the Spanish authorities.
