The director of ‘El País’ will give the inaugural lecture of the 73rd UCA Summer Courses in Cadiz

For the fifth consecutive year, the University of Cadiz has chosen notable Spanish women to inaugurate its Summer Courses. In the 73rd edition of the Cadiz Summer Courses, the opening lecture will be given by the journalist and director of the newspaper El País, Pepa Bueno, on Monday 3 July at 7 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of Cadiz. Admission will be free until limited seating capacity is reached. The title of her talk will be Journalism in the face of disinformation and noise. In the last edition, it was the labour lawyer, magistrate, emeritus judge and Spanish politician, Manuela Carmena, the previous year the writer María Dueñas, and the precedents: the Asturian, president of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Rosa Menéndez López, and María Blasco, director of the National Centre for Oncological Research.

Pepa Bueno (Badajoz, 1963), a graduate in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid, began her professional career at Radio Nacional de España. In 1991, she joined Televisión Española and, from 1996, presented the programme Gente. In 2004, he took over the direction and presentation of the morning show Los Desayunos de TVE. In 2008, she became in charge of editing and presenting Telediario 2. After 19 years with the public broadcaster, she returned to radio to direct and present Hoy por hoy on Cadena SER. In September 2019, he made his debut on Hora 25 (SER). In 2020, he received the Cátedra Manu Leguineche International Journalism Award. Throughout her career, she has been awarded the Ondas prize, the Cerecedo prize from the Association of European Journalists and the award for the Best Newscast in the World from the Media Tenor Academic Institute. Since 3 August 2021 she has been editor of the newspaper El País.
